Because it’s the moments that matter most

Our lives are filled with moments, many of which pass us by without notice. We’re a busy society, afterall. Updating. Downloading. Plugging in. Rushing out. Tweeting. Streaming. Always planning ahead. Constantly feeling behind.

Somewhere in the middle of all that, we lose track of what really defines our lives and who we are — to others as well as ourselves. It’s not the texts or Tweets, posts or pins.

It’s the moments.

Late last night, sitting quietly at the diningroom table together, my wife and I looked at each other, exhausted.

“I missed you today,” I said, snapping a photo as she looked at me, her face resting against her hand. “And not just because you’re beautiful.”

This made her smile.

“Or because you have a great smile and cleavage.”

She began to laugh.

“I guess what I’m saying is that I missed you, your smile and your boobs.”

As she laughed, I was reminded once again that it’s the moments that matter most in life — and how being able to make my wife laugh is my favorite kind.

I hope you’ll remember to make the most of those moments.

(Which, by the way, should not include my wife’s cleavage…)

      1. Well, from what I know, you’re pretty easy to love yourself!! You both are perfect for each other and I’m so happy for you two~Much love my friends!

  1. You’re such a romantic! And no doubt your wife makes you feel that way. Life is filled with moments, sometimes we just have to take a pause and recognize them every once in awhile. It’s so easy to take the simplest things for granted. 🙂 Happy Easter to you and your family.

    1. It’s tough sometimes to slow down, but it’s so worth it — and necessary. Thanks so much, Debby, and my best Easter wishes to you and your family as well 😉

  2. awww, you’re just a big sweetie ain’t you. It is the little things in life that make it so great. I mean like when my husband came by my work just to see me and it made my whole day better. Sometimes I think people are too busy trying to capture something funny or sweet or whatever on their phones and post it to facebook or twitter that they’re not actually truly there to even experience what is actually going on.

  3. Love it. There is so much in this life and world that weigh heavy on my brain, shoulders, and heart. It’s great to read about relationships like this – full of big heart. The moments I have with my husband, even while watching TV, I make a point to take a few breaths and notice the contours of his face and how his cheeks rise when he laughs. Time is everything, I do not take it for granted.

  4. I saw these photos before I read the story, and all I could think was…wow…that woman is in love! Beautiful woman, gorgeous words, and poignant message. There is just so much to love about this. Thanks for making me smile tonight, too.

  5. Lovely post. I agree, we do not focus on the small things in life which are more important. 🙂

  6. What a beautiful moment. And don’t worry, your wife’s cleavage is safe: I’ve got plenty of my own. (TMI??) 😉

Reminds me of moments when my husband and I spent the day doing yard work and sat together on the porch sipping something cold, just looking out at the newly manicured view.
